This blog contains the random musings of Michael Cheuk, follower of Jesus, husband, father, and pastor. I’m married to my lovely wife, Beth and have two great children, Thea and Wesley. I was born in Hong Kong, and my parents moved to the United States when I was seven. I graduated from Rice University in 1988, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1991, and the University of Virginia in 2004.
I set up this blog mainly as a way for the wonderful congregation at Farmville Baptist in Farmville, Virginia, to give me comments, feedback, critiques and suggestions to my sermons. If you’d like, you can visit the church’s blog by clicking here.
But I also hope that this blog might connect me with old friends and introduce me to new friends as we journey together in ministry and service to our Lord.
Thank you for visiting this blog!

Hi Michael, many, many years ago my Dad, a resident of Farmville, and minister among the Prebyterians, visited your church for a community-wide revival meeting.
Prior to the meeting, he overheard a conversation between several black brothers in which they described him with approval as a “Baptist kind of Presbyterian.”
I never forgot that story and sure enough Dad would baptize via immersion if that was preferred by the new disciple.
God bless you!

Zane, thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment! What was your dad’s name? I’m relatively new to Farmville, but I’m good friends with the ministers at the local Presbyterian Churches–Farmville Presbyterian, College Church and Cumberland Presbyterian. There’s a chance that those ministers might know or have heard of your dad.
By the way, perhaps partly due to our more liturgical worship and following the Christian calendar, we have folks in our church who are from a Presbyterian background. Perhaps some of us have an affinity with a “Presbyterian kind of Baptist”?
Blessings to you in your ministry!
